The Great Technology Race: Who Will Win and What Will We Lose?

It seems like every week there’s some new technology that’s being released. In the blink of an eye, a new product or service can overtake competitors and take over the market. As we get closer to a futuristic society, more and more technologies are being created, and they’re becoming more sophisticated and complex with each new release. With all these advances in technology, the question that needs to be asked is how much should we focus on technological innovations. What risks are we willing to take with these innovative technologies? Are there any consequences that could arise?

Disruptive technologies
In recent years, there have been a number of disruptive technologies that have had a major impact on the way we live and work. These include the likes of 3D printing, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and blockchain. It is unclear who will win in this race to produce the most game-changing technology, but it seems unlikely it will be just one winner. In this blog post, I’ll take a look at three likely contenders: Virtual Reality (VR), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Blockchain.

Home automation
We are in the midst of a great technology race. Companies are vying to create the best home automation products and services that will make our lives easier. But as we sprint towards this future, we need to ask ourselves: who will win this race, and what will we lose in the process? It is true that these advances have improved efficiency and reduced labor costs, but at what cost? There is no doubt that there has been an increase in security breaches due to connected devices. However, how many people actually stop to think about whether or not their data is being shared with third parties without their knowledge or consent?
It’s understandable why companies want to share user data- they want more information about us so they can sell us more things. The problem arises when companies decide that it’s okay for them to sell our information without telling us first.

Speech recognition
We are in the midst of a great technology race. At stake is who will control the future of technology, and what we will lose if we don’t win. The prize is immense: billions of dollars, the fate of our economy, and the very future of our children. One contestant in this race is China.
We have been reluctant to take China’s challenge seriously—until now. A recent study by the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) predicts that China will become number one by 2020, surpassing America as the world’s largest market for internet-connected devices.
China will soon be home to more people with an active internet connection than any other country on earth, said BCG president Rich Lesser at a presentation in Shanghai last month where he also predicted that Chinese consumers would buy nearly $200 billion worth of products online by 2020, double today’s total and accounting for 20% of all global sales.

Space exploration
Since the beginning of time, humans have looked up at the stars and wondered what lies beyond. With the advent of technology, we have been able to explore our solar system and beyond, learning more about the universe every day. The race to explore space is on, with multiple countries and private companies vying for the title of first to Mars or first to find extraterrestrial life. But what are we really racing for? And what will we lose in the process? There’s a lot of talk about who will be the first country to send a human into space, but very little discussion about what that actually means. For example, it costs $2 billion per astronaut just to get them there. Imagine if they need emergency medical care while they’re in orbit- an emergency rescue would cost $1 billion! There’s also been talk that if China becomes the first country to put a human on Mars, it could lead to a new Space Race reminiscent of the Cold War between America and Russia.
